PAKZOO Hosting Poetry Slam Workshops at Kalamazoo Public Library

Bring your creativity and words with you!

Poets Anonymous K'Zoo presents a monthly workshop and competition for teens interested in writing and performing their original poetry.

Leave your egos at the door, but bring your creativity and words with you! Local poetry slam experts will coach teens through the process of writing, revising, and performing poetry for fun and competition.

Tentative iWPS tournament announcement

The Individual World Poetry Slam (aka iWPS) is an annual poetry slam championship for individual poets (as opposed to the National Poetry Slam, which is for teams). This year iWPS will be held in Berkeley, California - October 8-10. PAKZOO sent a poet (Karrie Waarala) to iWPS for the first time last year. We would like to send another poet to the 2009 iWPS event.

Team PAKZOO Benefit Show - Moved to Tuesday, July 14th

Team PAKZOO 2009 - your team representing Kalamazoo and all of SW Michigan at the National Poetry Slam - needs your help. We are raising funds for airfare to and from West Palm Beach, Florida and hotel costs.

The PAKZOO benefit show will feature all five members of this year's team and at least two group pieces. We will have a silent poet auction, in which the winner gets a customized poem by the poet of her choice. We will have other poetry-style games as well for your amusement.

Only two more shows before the National Poetry Slam (UPDATE: Please note change of benefit show)

If you want to catch Team PAKZOO 2009 before they travel to Florida to compete in the National Poetry Slam, you only have a couple more opportunities.

Our next two shows at the Strutt are on Wednesday, July 8th and Tuesday, July 14th. Both shows are from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. (Please note, the 14th is a new day this week only.)

The July 8th show is a regular open mic and poetry slam. There is a $20 first prize for the slam. Both lists are open to all comers on a first come - first serve basis. There is no cover charge for the show, but donations of $5, $10, or $20 are encouraged.

The world-famous PAKZOO poetry slam and open mic happens the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at Strutt.

Bring your voices, your friends, your words, and your appetites to a rocking time in downtown Kalamazoo.

No cover, but donations to team PAKZOO 2009 to cover traveling expenses is appreciated. We are expecting four out of the five members of this year's team to be in attendance. Can you beat them in a slam?

PAKZOO Open Mic and Poetry Slam with Special Feature: Aaron (Three) Coleman

Poets Anonymous K'Zoo is proud to announce another edition of our twice monthly open mic and poetry show hosted by Todd Bannon at the Strutt.

The PAKZOO Poetry Show is held the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. Our show is exciting and unpredictable, but you can always count on the slam winner walking away with $20 and at least two people becoming qualified for our big slam tournaments, including the Individual World Poetry Slam qualifier, the Women of the World Poetry Slam qualifier, and the National Poetry Slam qualifier.

Day of Silence Open Mic

MAKING A STATEMENT WITH THE DAY OF SILENCE!

Day of Silence is a student-led day of action where those who support making anti-LGBT bias unacceptable in schools take a day-long vow of silence to recognize and protest the discrimination and harassment — in effect, the silencing — experienced by LGBT students and their allies. Last year, hundreds of thousands of students at more than 8,000 schools participated in the Day of Silence.
